There is a link between animal cruelty and family violence.

Unfortunately, violence begets violence. When there is animal cruelty in a home, chances are that someone, possibly a child, a partner or an elderly family member, is being hurt, too.

That's why The Linkage Project, a program of Youth Alternatives Ingraham, is working to increase community awareness of the strong link between animal cruelty and human violence. What's more, project leaders are training human and animal welfare workers and law enforcement officers from across the state to work together to stop violence against people and pets. The Project also works to change law, policy and practice so that people and pets are safer.

By becoming informed, spreading the word and reporting suspected abuse, you can help stop violence against pets and people in your community.
For more information about the Linkage Project, it’s history and successes through December of 2007, please see the monograph: One State’s Experience Addressing the Connection Between Animal Cruelty and Human Violence.
